Liquid Dive is the heart of our little resort. Being avid divers we love the underwater world and hope to share our enthusiasm with every one that comes to dive or learn to dive with us.
Tim has been diving since he was 15 – so for along time now:) He became a PADI divemaster in 1999 and a PADI instructor in 2002. Since then he has worked all over the world teaching over 1500 students from discover scuba diving to assistant instructor. He loves the underwater world and has a passion for teaching specialties and divemasters. Tim now holds the rank of PADI Master Instructor and is aiming for his Course Director in 2013.
Zoe has been diving since she was 18, so not quite as long:) She became a PADI divemaster and instructor in 2002. As you may have guessed since then she has joined Tim working all over the world teaching nearly 1000 students from discover scuba to divemaster. Her main passion is simply floating in the blue – being one of the only places where peace and tranquility are guaranteed! Zoe is now a PADI STAFF instructor and is quite happy staying that way:)
Both of us have had a dream for over 10 years of opening our own dive resort. Many instructors have this dream, many think it will be great fun and easy and then realize exactly what is involved so decide to stay working for someone else. Others never want the hassle of owing their own shop, after all it does limit the amount of time you get to go diving. And still others take the proverbial bull by the horns and sink all their hard earned cash into their life long dream. !
Having worked for so long and in so many different countries we finally decided that we probably had gained enough knowledge and know how to put our money where our mouth is and set up shop! Not an easy task in the Philippines, or anywhere for that matter, but after a year of searching for the perfect spot, a year of legal negotiations and 6 months of construction our dream finally become a reality.
Liquid Dive has been open officially since November 2011. Our swimming pool was designed especially for teaching diving, the deep end is 2.7mts and of course the required 10mts width, perfect for practicing those CESA’s! Our dive shop has a well stocked sales area and if we do not have the item you are looking for we can order it from Cebu and have it here the next day. The classroom is filled with wonderful quirky training aids – just ask Tim or Zoe about their favorite diving movie. We have 15 full sets of brand new dive equipment, underwater dive lights, computers and cameras for rent.
The dive shop is essentially the heart of Liquid, however our pride and joy is the upstairs bar and restaurant in The Lodge. This large area is an open plan with lots of space for divers to relax, chill out, watch a movie, surf the web or chat at the bar with fellow travelers over a nice cold beer. We love the views of the pool, beach and Siquijor island.
So why dive here? After all there are many different destinations to choose from. Well let us list a few reasons why we think you should come dive here-
Marine Sanctuary – This region has some of the most successful marine sanctuaries in the country and thanks to a strong university base, positive minded locals and a collective involvement from all dive establishments the sanctuaries are supported and thriving.
Fish – we have a lot of them. One of the big problems in the Philippines is over fishing. And lets face it when you are an island nation that has lived primarily off fishing for generations, this is eventually going to become a problem. Add in the growing population, overseas trawlers and officials who look the other way then the problem just grows. Luckily for us, with the continuing success of the marine sanctuaries we have a lot of fish and we mean lots. Huge schools of trevally, jacks and barracuda can be seen on most dive sites.
Macro – the Philippines is famous for its muck diving. This is the place where divers come with a wish list and tend to leave happy after they get to tick most if not all of the items off. This region will not disappoint for those muck diving enthusiasts. We have ornate ghost pipe fish, nudibranch, flat worms, mantis shrimp, crabs, leaf fish, frog fish, flamboyant cuttlefish….do I need to go on…
Corals – a healthy reef is a happy reef. And here there are some amazing soft and hard corals. Large staghorn formations, barrel sponges and brain corals can be found mixed in with a plethora of soft corals, tunicates and sea grasses. The corals add color, life and dimension to all our dives.
Liquid Dumaguete is not just a resort, it’s our home. Your officially invited to come for a visit.
